abstract = "Over the past 15 years, Brazil has become a global agricultural
power, and Cerrado biome has played an important role in the
growth of brazilian agriculture, mainly in the last four decades.
Located in the central portion of the country, it covers an area
of approximately 2 million square kilometers. The aim of this
paper was to evaluate de dynamic of degradation of Cerrado biome
located in Mato Grosso State, up to 2001. The study area
corresponds to the south portion of the state where is located the
Cerrado biome, covering aproximately 380,000 km˛. In this work,
Landsat TM and ETM+ images from Global Land Cover Facility (GLCF)
were used. It was made two mosaics of the study area, one using TM
images that corresponds to the year of 1990 and another using ETM+
images from the year of 2001. The visual interpretation of the
changed polygons was performed. The results showed that up to year
1990, the modifications were mainly located at Center-South, North
and Southeast mesoregions. From 1990 to 2001, the main changes
were located at the North and Southeast mesoregions. According to
the soil map, the results showed that Latossols and Neosols were
the most used for the development of human activities in both
years.",
